Most impressive is the range of architecture – from ancient Roman ruins, to the magnificent Hautecombe Abbey and private chateaux overlooking Lac du Bourget, to the Belle Epoch and Art Deco beauties of the Old Town high above the lake. C’est magnifique!

Among many other irreplaceable items, these beautiful bronze lions were removed by the Nazis to be melted down for ammunition. Thankfully, they survived, but what other treasures were destroyed for schrapnel?
