New Zealand: Arrival and a shot on the rocks

Flying into Queenstown, New Zealand, is like entering Mordor on a sunny day.

This spectacular view over Queenstown hides a dark secret…

No inclinators in town!

Still, we all agreed that this gorgeous accommodation was the best in town and worth every aerobic step for that million-dollar view!

Shot on the rocks

The Shotover Jet is a world-famous jet boat ride just outside Queenstown. Thundering through impossibly narrow canyons at up to 90km per hour, skimming ridiculously close to the jagged rocks, you’ll wonder who talked you into this madness, and how best you can thank them afterwards. A word of warning: when the pilot holds his hand in the air and makes a turning signal – hold on tight!

The experience can be booked in advance from Australia (and probably elsewhere).

We are Ngāi Tahu, the Māori people of this land and the proud owners of Shotover Jet. Our connection to Kimiākau (the Shotover River) goes back centuries.

  1. I thought it was going to be a relaxing holiday but noooooo. By the way, did you notice that Frank broke into your bag (see video evidence)? Obviously, he was so exhausted, he was prepared to grab any bag – for water, Panadol, Ventalin, a blanket for a lie-down, etc.

    • Today we did a 4-hour walk along the Keplar Track from Te Anau. It
sounds hard but it was flat all the way. Now that’s what I call relaxing
compared to Queenstown and Mount Cook!

Yes, I did notice Frank taking something from my backpack. Was it
      directions to the nearest bar?
