Seven hours inland from the Ningaloo Coast, in the red heart of the Pilbara, is Karijini National Park.
It’s hard to get to, challenging to camp in, and full of difficult (Class 5) walking trails.
And it is bloody amazing.
October in the WA Outback is full of wildflowers, with beautiful mild weather and serene swimming holes. Nothing is too hot or too cold. It’s heaven.
Heaven is hard to photograph but we gave it our best shot. Thanks for taking a look.

It all looks super amazing. Am loving your reportage. Can’t get over the fact that most of the pix have no other tourists in them. Are you really that ‘alone’ out there? Is that a bit scary? Or is it a wonderful feeling? You certainly look like you’re having fun. Keep on as you were…
Love, Mon xx
Thanks, Mon. We’re back now. It was the end of the tourist season so not too crowded, and it was easy to find a beautiful deserted beach or clifftop. The campsites all had other people staying of course. In Karijini, the gorges generally had about 6 other tourists and we often bumped into the same people, which was fun. It was easy to time a swim in the lagoons so that we were there on our own. Karijini was very special. The only time I was scared was when a dingo ‘set up camp’ with us and I needed to walk to the drop loo in the dead of night. 🙂
