Swimming with wild sea lions

Jurien Bay is 2 hours north of Perth. There’s not much to recommend the town except its easy access to colonies of endangered sea lions. We were lucky enough to swim with three juveniles and a female.

The sea lions aren’t ‘lured’ to the tour boat. They choose to swim out from Seal Island and join us, then leave when they want to. They seem to enjoy our company as much as we enjoy theirs. In one of the videos with the female, she raises her flipper and ‘waves’ as she heads home.

Apologies for the video quality – first-time GoPro user. Thanks for watching.
