
And it’s not Asia either. It’s the coral beaches of Claigan, near Dunvegan, on Skye, Scotland.
The beach is made up of tiny animal exoskeletons. They crunch when you walk on them and the vista is blinding. The water is almost the colour of the blue lakes on Fraser Island, Queensland, although I wouldn’t plunge in – it was about 5 degrees Celsius when we were here in September.

To get here, go past Dunvegan Castle, keep driving and then park at the end. You need to walk quite a long way to get to the beaches, past a few suspicious cattle. On the way you’ll find some cool ruins.
If you make it all the way to the coral beaches (first one is insignificant – keep walking), you might be lucky enough to have a seal encouter. We saw one swimming but decided not to join it.
